Soccer Cup underway

OAKWOOD- The 19th Annual Northeast Georgia Mountains Tournament Cup soccer matches got underway Monday with girls' play. Lakeview Academy blanked Habersham Central 2-nil. Erica Breedlove had a goal for the Lady Lions, and Lisa McMahan scored on an assist from Jessica Moses. Amey Coleman recorded the shut out in goal for the Lions who will face Johnson in tourney play Thursday. Lakeview has a Tuesday non-tourney game scheduled at Union County. Host West Hall opened their part of the Cup Tournament with a 7-2 win over Stephens County. Jessica Williams had a hat trick for the Lady Spartans, while Christen Bambrick, Chrissy Gammon, Megan Ozaki, and Ashley Parker added a goal each in the win. Tara Huffman and Parker had two assists. Gammon had one, along with Katie Wood. West Hall (7-1) is rated 9th in the AAAA rankings, and is scheduled to play the triple-A number nine team, Winder-Barrow Thursday at 5:30 in Cup play. Tournament play Tuesday matches Johnson and Habersham Central. Elsewhere, in another girls' non-tourney match, Dawson County zapped East Hall 8-0. In boys' play in Atlanta, Gainesville goalie Geoffrey del Forn recorded a shut out, and Edward Puckett's goal proved to be the difference in the GHS 1-0 win over Greater Atlanta Christian. The 5th-ranked Gainesville boys (5-2) are slated to play at Monroe Area Thursday after the GHS/Monroe girls play, starting at 5PM. In Tuesday boys' play the schedule calls for Riverside hosting Forsyth Central as well as Johnson/North Forsyth at Allen Creek; and Habersham/North Hall at Habersham.
