PHOENIX, ARIZONA - One of two finalists for the presidency of Arizona State University withdrew her name from consideration.
Karen A. Holbrook, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia, dropped out of the running for the position Monday afternoon, The Arizona Republic reported on its Web site Tuesday.
That leaves Michael Crow, executive vice provost at Columbia University, as the only remaining candidate to replace Lattie Coor, who will retire June 30.
Crow, 46, will interview with the state Board of Regents on Friday.
This is the third time in as many years Holbrook has pulled her name from consideration for a university presidency.
She was under consideration for the University of Florida's presidency in 2000 and the University of Kentucky's top job last year.
``After spending the weekend considering what this move would mean professionally and personally, I decided that this is not the right fit for me at this time,'' she said in a statement.
Holbrook, 59, is the second Arizona State finalist to withdraw her name from consideration.
John Shumaker, president of the University of Louisville, removed himself from the search process before the candidates were announced. He has since been named president of the University of Tennessee.
