CONYERS - Two teen-agers were sentenced to nine years in jail Tuesday for causing more than $200,000 in damage to a Rockdale County school.
Superior Court Judge Sidney Nation also sentenced Bryan Lee Grantham, 16, and Rex Terry Newman, 17, to 11 years probation for vandalizing J.H. House Elementary School last summer. The two pleaded guilty Feb. 13.
The judge's ruling went beyond District Attorney Richard Read's recommendation that Grantham serve three years and Newman serve five years of 20-year sentences for burglary and interference with government property.
Grantham, the grandson of state Rep. Barbara Bunn, R-Conyers, was 15 when he was charged last summer.
Now held in a youth detention facility, he will stay in juvenile detention until he is 17, said Bob Houman, chief assistant district attorney.
