SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - Running back Garrison Hearst agreed to a six-year, $20 million contract Wednesday to remain with the San Francisco 49ers.
The former Georgia star rushed for 1,206 yards in an amazing return to the NFL last season after missing the previous two years because of complications from a broken ankle.
The 49ers never released Hearst after his injury in a January 1999 playoff game, and Hearst acknowledged their loyalty by returning despite interest from several teams.
Hearst said, ``I consider myself a 49er, and this means I'll probably finish my career there, which is a great thing. The team supported me through some tough times. They've been very good to me, and I'm thrilled to be able to stay.''
