ATLANTA - Less than two months before its scheduled date, CNN has pulled the plug on this year's World Report conference.
The annual conference brings broadcasters from around the world to Atlanta. Low attendance numbers led to the event's cancellation this year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.
CNN spokesman Chris Wilmore said several journalists and executives from foreign news organizations couldn't attend the conference due to a busy news environment and tightened budgets at their companies.
CNN plans to hold the next World Report conference in spring 2003 in Atlanta, Wilmore said.
Last year, about 300 journalists from 80 nations attended the event.
