Co-founder of Fayetteville weekly Dave Hamrick dies at 51

FAYETTEVILLE - Dave Hamrick, a former press secretary for Newt Gingrich and a co-founder of The Citizen weekly newspaper in Fayette County, has died at age 51. <br>

Hamrick collapsed and died Wednesday while playing soccer in Fayetteville. <br>
<br>
Hamrick was involved with a lawsuit that resulted in a 1993 ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals making letters to the editor subject to libel laws. Hamrick was the executive editor of Sun Newspapers, which was sued by an East Point city attorney. <br>
<br>
After the company folded, Hamrick founded the Citizen, where he served as editor and self-described conservative columnist. <br>
<br>
Hamrick also worked as a press secretary for Gingrich, the former House Speaker, when he was a congressman. <br>
<br>
He is survived by his wife, two children, two brothers and his parents. A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home.
