WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA - Three teams more used to playing deep into the NCAA tournament will be challenged this year just to get out of the second round.
Georgia, Old Dominion and Purdue will play in first-round games Saturday in the East Regional at Mackey Arena. The three have combined for 51 NCAA tournament appearances, eleven Final Fours and 29 round-of-16 appearances.
Then there's Austin Peay. The Lady Govs are forging ahead with their own tradition, making a second straight NCAA tournament appearance and third in seven years.
The Lady Govs (19-11) are the 15th seed -- up from 16 a year ago -- and earned the automatic bid with a win over Tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament title game.
Purdue coach Kristy Curry has given the customary warning to her team not to overlook Austin Peay, although Number two seeds are 32-and-0 against Number 15 seeds since 1994.
Seventh-seeded Old Dominion (25-5) makes its eleventh straight tournament appearance and 19th overall. Georgia (19-10) also has played in 19 tournaments, with both schools behind only Louisiana Tech and Tennessee's total of 21.
Georgia is 36-18 in the tournament; Old Dominion 29-17.
