MACON - After her son's murder in 1994, 47-year-old Brenda Jacobs used drugs and alcohol for nearly eight years to drown her grief.
Now she is vowing the violent death of her daughter, less than two weeks ago, won't end her newfound sobriety.

Jacobs' daughter, Felicia Lucas, was run over by a car and shot five times in the front yard of her home in Macon. She died two days later.
Police have charged Lucas' estranged boyfriend, Garey Bernard Kinder, with murder. Family members say the 26-year-old Lucas and the 30-year-old Kinder had an on-and-off relationship for about 12 years that was sometimes violent.

According to police reports, Kinder, the father of three of Lucas' four children, pleaded guilty to simple battery-family violence charges in 2001 and was sentenced to 12 months probation.
In 1994, Jacobs' son, Charles Fountain, was killed three days before his 23rd birthday. He suffered a gunshot wound to the face and died January eighth, also in Macon.
Jacobs is finding help at the Alpha House, a counseling center for recovering addicts near Mercer University.
