WASHINGTON - A proposal in the president's new budget could benefit poultry science in northeast Georgia and elsewhere in the country by bringing a lab to Georgia.
A new $99 million poultry research building would be built near the University of Georgia campus under a proposal in President Bush's 2002-03 budget, taking the place of a lab in Michigan.

About 25 jobs would be transferred to the new 200,000-square foot Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, which would replace the 40 year old building where 50 people currently work.

The move would add about $3.5 million dollars a year to the lab's budget.
Georgia is the country's top broiler producer and ranks third in the U.S. in egg production.
