Ole Miss pounds out win over Eagles

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Drew Rogers hit a two-run home run and Bryce Morrison drove in three runs as Mississippi defeated Southern Mississippi 7-2 Tuesday night. <br> <br> The Rebels (14-6) led 4-0 before Golden Eagles starter Daniel Stewart (1-2) recorded an out. <br> <br> The first five batters for Ole Miss reached base with Seth Smith doubling in a run, Morrison singling home two and Chad Sterbens driving in another with a single. <br> <br> Pete Montrenes (5-1), one of six pitchers used by Ole Miss, started and worked two innings allowing three hits and two runs. <br> <br> T.J. Beam pitched a scoreless three innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. <br> <br> Montrenes was pounded in his previous start as the Rebels were swept by Florida last weekend. <br> <br> Allen Winningham&#39;s two-run double in the second cut the deficit to 4-2 for Southern Miss (14-6). <br> <br> Rogers homered off Stewart in the third to put Ole Miss up 6-2. <br> <br> Stewart allowed 12 hits and seven runs - six earned - in seven innings.
