Tech (16-3) appeared to be cruising to victory after a six-run third inning, highlighted by Mike Nickeas' two-run single, gave the Yellow Jackets a 10-1 lead. <br>

But Eastern Kentucky, trailing 13-2, scored six runs off reliever Kevin Guyette in a seven-run ninth before Aaron Walker replaced him and stopped the rally. <br>

Andy Polzin and John Myles had two-run singles for Eastern Kentucky in the ninth. <br>

Eric Antrop (0-1) took the loss, yielding eight runs in two-plus innings. <br>
<br>
Eastern Kentucky (2-13) took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Neil Sellers in the first inning, and the Colonels had runners on first and third with one out before Schmidt (1-0) struck out Will Whisenant and Aaron Williams to end the inning.
