NEWNAN - Former Newnan Mayor Clifford ``Gandy'' Glover has been charged with discharging a firearm near a public street and criminal trespass after blasting away at a burglar alarm that had been wailing for hours, police said.
``Glover stated that the alarm at the building had been going off for several hours and he could not take the noise any more,'' the police report says. ``Since the police could not stop the alarm, he had tried.''
Glover, 54, lives a short distance from Advanced Chiropractic and Pain Center, where the alarm went off on Saturday. Police couldn't stop it and the alarm company could not find a key holder.
A patrol officer heard shotgun blasts, drove to the office and found Glover dressed in camouflage. Glover, mayor from 1986-92, turned over his 12-gauge shotgun and admitted he fired twice at the alarm, police said.
The shots damaged the side of the building but did nothing to stop the alarm.
