GAINESVILLE - Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville has decided not to help a non-profit birthing center get started.
Saint Mary's spokeswoman Elena Trear of Flowery Branch says her group has been looking for another hospital.
A Medical Center spokeswoman has been quoted as saying its doctors voted not to endorse the project because of concerns about patient safety.
Birthing centers are required by the state to be within 30 minutes of its hospital partner in case a delivery becomes complicated.
They offer women with a low risk of delivery complications an alternative from hospitals.
