AUGUSTA - An office manager who helped herself to more than $25,000 of company money pleaded guilty Thursday.

Kimberly N. Thompson, 24, admitted in Richmond County Superior Court that she used the Pruitt Ford and Associates credit card for her own use for about a year and a half.

The engineering firm estimated Thompson ran up $27,189 in personal expenses, Assistant District Attorney Ashley Wright said.

The credit card charges included 50 visits to Target and Christmas ornaments bought at a jewelry store. There also were cash advances totaling more than $4,000, Wright said.

Defense attorney David Weber told the judge Thompson was willing to make full restitution. Thompson also apologized for her actions.

Wright asked Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet not to grant first offender status, which erases a conviction if the person successfully completes probation. She also noted that Thompson threatened to sue for sexual harassment when she was fired after the thefts were discovered.

Thompson was sentenced to five years probation under the First Offenders Act and ordered to pay $25,711, a $12,855 fine within 30 days and to perform 100 hours of community service.
