TYBEE ISLAND - The owners of a Tybee Island pest control business were arrested Friday, a week after pesticides exploded outside their home.
Police charged Christine and David Iannuzzi with making false statements, a felony. David Iannuzzi also faces five counts of reckless conduct and one count of improper storage and disposal of pesticides, Detective Sgt. William B. Moseley said.
They were released on $10,000 bonds each.
The March 21 explosion sent one police officer to the hospital, led to the evacuation of a neighborhood and closed several businesses, including the post office.
Discarded fumigants used by the Ultimate Pest Control business mixed with rain water caused a trash can to explode. Several other explosions followed during the cleanup, which lasted several days.
