LINTHICUM, Md. - A passenger concourse at Baltimore-Washington International Airport was evacuated Thursday because of an incident at a security checkpoint, delaying at least five flights.
What prompted the evacuation was not immediately disclosed. The fingerlike concourse known as Pier B, which is used only by Southwest Airlines, was evacuated about 11:40 a.m., airport spokeswoman Nancy Sites said.
About 1,500 passengers were evacuated and security personnel with bomb-sniffing dogs swept the area. Around 1:15 p.m., the concourse reopened and workers began re-screening the evacuated passengers.
No incoming flights were delayed, but the evacuation delayed five outgoing flights, Sites said.
