Doctors find recurrence of cancer in Patsy Ramsey, lawyer says

ATLANTA - The family attorney says doctors have diagnosed a recurrence of ovarian cancer in Patsy Ramsey, the mother of slain child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey. <br> <br> Attorney Lin Wood said Friday the diagnosis came after the 45-year-old Ramsey&#39;s annual examination earlier this week in Bethesda, Maryland. <br> <br> In a statement, Wood said Ramsey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1993. She had been free of cancer for 8 1/2 years before doctors noticed the recurrence this week. <br> <br> He said doctors are optimistic because the new cancer appears confined to a small area. <br> <br> The attorney said he had hoped Ramsey&#39;s health would remain a private matter but has received repeated questions about it from the press. <br> <br> Wood&#39;s statement added, ``It is unfortunate but now inescapably clear that Mrs. Ramsey&#39;s health will be the subject of discussion by some members of the media, including the supermarket tabloids.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> It has been more than five years since six-year-old JonBenet was found strangled in the basement of her family&#39;s home. Police have yet to charge anyone in her death. <br> <br> Police have said the Ramseys remain under an umbrella of suspicion. The couple deny killing their daughter, saying an unidentified intruder is responsible for the death.
