Senator Fritz Hollings is the host of the meeting. It will address ways to implement a bill that Hollings and Florida Senator Bob Graham introduced last year. <br>

U.S. Senator Zell Miller of Georgia and others are co-sponsoring the bill that was approved by the Senate in December and is now before the House. <br>

It would set national security standards and require each port to be reviewed for possible security breaches. The measure allocates $1.6 billion over six years for more screening personnel and equipment. It also calls for $3.3 billion in loan guarantees for security improvements at ports such as the one in Savannah.
