ATLANTA - Rayvan Teague, who led Swainsboro to the 2000 Class AAA state title, has been hired as football coach and athletic director at Carrollton High School.

Teague, 39, accepted the job Tuesday night after the Carrollton Board of Education voted unanimously to hire him.

``This is just an opportunity that I couldn't pass up,'' Teague told the Times-Georgian newspaper. ``I won't ever look to leave Carrollton. This is my last stop. This is where I plan on sinking in my roots.''

Teague replaces Ross New, who resigned Jan. 2 after going 13-11 in two years. Carrollton has won four state championships, the last coming in 1998 under Ben Scott, who died from a rare liver disease a year later.

In 12 years as a head coach, Teague went a combined 99-35-1 at Swainsboro and LaFayette. He led Swainsboro to a 6-0 victory at Fitzgerald in the state championship two years ago.
Lowndes is still searching to replace Milt Miller, who retired Jan. 19. Miller, 57, led Lowndes to the 1999 Class AAAA championship after the Vikings upset No. 1 Northside and No. 2 Brunswick.

Reports this week in The Tifton Gazette and The Valdosta Daily Times indicated Lowndes superintendent Thomas Hagler wants to meet with Fitzgerald coach Robby Pruitt.

``Some people called me about that job,'' Pruitt said. ``But that is all I know about that right now.''

Miller, whose owns a career record of 209-92, went 79-39 at Lowndes, including victories in four of his last five games against archrival Valdosta. In Valdosta's 88-year history, Miller is the only coach to win three straight over the Wildcats.

Before taking over at Lowndes 10 years ago, Miller turned Worth County into a contender, winning the 1987 Class AAA title and advancing to the championship game three other times.
``I've been a coach for 33 years, and that much time in a young man's game is enough,'' Miller told The Georgia Times-Union. ``The game has changed, and I haven't.''
