PEACHTREE CITY - The National Weather Service says wintry precipitation is possible in northeast Georgia this week.
The service issued a special statement Monday saying the best chance of freezing precipitation is late Wednesday into Thursday morning.
According to the report, low pressure will develop over the northern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday morning, then slowly move off the South Carolina coast by Thursday morning.
In northeast Georgia, the precipitation is expected to begin late Wednesday afternoon or early evening in the form of snow or a mixture of snow and sleet. It should become mixed with or change to sleet and freezing rain Wednesday night.
However, the Weather Service says a great deal of uncertainty still exists in terms of the timing and eventual track of this storm and the extent of the cold air across the region.
