BRUNSWICK - A Brunswick physician will go on trial Feb. 19 on federal charges involving an alleged plot to have his wife killed.
Dr. Carl M. Drury Jr. is charged with using a telephone in a murder for hire and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a crime of violence.
Drury Jr.'s defense team includes Ed Garland of Atlanta, Tom A. Withers of Savannah, a former assistant U.S. attorney, and Craig Gillen of Atlanta representing him. Gillen may be busy in another venue, however, because state Sen. Van Streat, D-Nicholls, has hired him to represent him on felony corruption charges.
Drury's trial was to have begun Jan. 7, but U.S. District Judge Dudley H. Bowen Jr. granted a continuance because of his lawyers' family commitments over the holidays.
The trial is expected to last much of the week.
