OAKWOOD - A Tifton native has been announced as the new president of Lanier Technical College.
Doctor Michael D. Moye will fill the shoes of Joe Hill who retired from the position last fall.
Moye has been president of Moultrie Technical College since 19-94.
His appointment is effective March first.
Dr. Ken Breeden, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, said Lanier Technical College is growing rapidly and Moye knows about growth.
"So when we can bring people who are experienced in our own system, it seems to work extremely well," said Dr. Breeden.
In a Thursday press release Moye said he was looking forward to moving from south Georgia and considered meeting with local business and industry leaders was his first priority.
Moye has served as President of Moultrie Technical College since 1994 where he was responsible for the overall operation of the college and its four campus locations.
President of Ogeechee Technical College Steve Deraney served as interim President at Lanier Tech following Joe Hill's retirement.
