FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nimbus Group Inc. said Monday it received a $1.2 billion commitment to finance its purchase of 1,000 jets from aircraft maker Eclipse Aviation.
Dafin Asset Finance Limited, an affiliate of Royal Bank of Scotland International, provided the financial commitment.
Nimbus, a startup jet taxi service based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., said the jets are slated for delivery beginning in 2004.
Until fall 2001, Nimbus was an Internet company called Take to Auction, and it has never operated an air-charter service. The company ordered 1,000 planes from Eclipse, Albuquerque, N.M., in mid-September with hopes of creating the largest air-taxi service in North and South America under a newly created unit, Nimbus Jets.
Nimbus's on-demand private jet aircraft taxi service is starting at $600 per flight hour.
Earlier this year, Nimbus announced plans to sell its Take to Auction.com Web site, which allows customers to put up a cash investment and choose merchandise to sell at online auction sites or though an online store.
