CONYERS - A judge in suburban Atlanta has ordered a repeat child molester to undergo chemical castration as part of his sentence.
Rockdale County Chief Superior Court Judge Sidney Nation also sentenced 43-year-old Larry Waymon Thompson to serve five years in prison on a 15-year sentence for two counts of child molestation. Thompson is to serve the remaining ten years on probation.
He also is to serve an additional 15 years on probation for a third child molestation count.
The judge told Thompson ``You have some serious problems'' and said that Thompson must stop that kind of behavior.
Georgia law allows for chemical castration, but this marks the first time the Rockdale Judicial Circuit has used the medical procedure as part of a sentence for a sex offender.
Thompson had been charged with having inappropriate relations with a 14-year-old on numerous occasions between June of 1998 and February 2000. He already was on probation for child molestation in Newton County at the time of the Rockdale County incident. His probation in Newton County is expected to be revoked.
