Naval officer accused of stealing weapons

ALBANY - A Navy petty officer has been arrested and charged with theft of government property after authorities found a cache of weapons and camouflage uniforms at his home. <br> <br> Captain John T. Dodd said Petty Officer First Class Christopher J. Cochran was arrested Thursday by military police at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany and is being held in the Dougherty County Jail. <br> <br> Military officers who searched Cochran&#39;s home found government issued uniforms, gun holsters, bayonets and knives. Investigators believe Cochran got the goods using the account number of the Naval Branch Medical Clinic on the base, where Cochran had been working for about two years. <br> <br> Dodd said Cochran used the account number to access a military Web site and ordered the goods. <br> <br> He said the uniforms, holsters and other items were shipped to the base where Cochran intercepted the shipments. <br> <br> Investigators believe Cochran has sold much of what he stole. <br> <br> Military police began investigating Cochran Tuesday after a co-worker noticed unusual activity on the medical office&#39;s account. They believe he ran the scam for about a year. <br> <br> The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the alleged theft. <br> <br> Cochran was to be taken to the naval base in Jacksonville, Florida, where he will be confined until his trial.
