OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Pete Montrenes struck out eight batters in six innings and Mississippi scored six runs in the eighth inning to beat Jacksonville State 10-2 Friday in the Rebels' season opener. <br>

It was Ole Miss's 21st straight season-opening victory. <br>

Jacksonville State (3-1) trailed 4-0 in the sixth before a two-run, two-out double by Scott Smith. <br>

That was as close as JSU would get. <br>

Ole Miss, ranked 12th in the Collegiate Baseball poll and 20th in the Baseball America poll, scored three runs in the second inning. <br>

Clint Farrar hit a leadoff double and Chad Sterbens followed with a RBI single to make it 1-0. Sterbens later scored on Swearingen's two-out single to make it 2-0. <br>

Steve Shippey (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings to pick up the loss for JSU. Montrenes allowed three runs on five hits to earn the win. <br>

Farrar went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Sterbens had two hits and two RBIs. <br>

Adam Yates pitched three scoreless innings to earn the save. He allowed just one hit.
