OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Mississippi is revising its biography of football coach David Cutcliffe to make clear he did not attend Alabama on an athletic scholarship.
Cutcliffe's biography in the Ole Miss media guide says he signed a scholarship in 1972 with ``Bear Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide'' but could not play because of a back injury.
Cutcliffe, a high school linebacker, attended Alabama but not on an athletic scholarship. He worked as a student assistant on scholarship for the athletic department.
John Shafer, Ole Miss' athletic director, said Wednesday that questions about the biography were ``brought to our attention during the past recruiting season.''

``We have elected to rephrase portions of the biography that might have been misunderstood,'' Shafer said in a statement.

Cutcliffe is not accused of wrongdoing.

``No information in my biography about my athletic background has ever communicated anything other than I was unable to play collegiate football,'' Cutcliffe said.
Clem Gryska, a former assistant at Alabama, told The Commercial Appeal newspaper of Memphis that Cutcliffe was given a ``work scholarship'' and part of his job was working in the athletic dorm.
