COVINGTON - A diabetic prisoner held in Newton County Jail died Wednesday, and the man's friends want answers about his medical care.
Forty-nine-year-old William Barry Barnette of Danielsville was sent to jail in December for NOT paying child support. He was being held at the Newton County Jail in Covington when he became ill Tuesday afternoon.
Barnette died a few hours later at Newton General Hospital.
The G-B-I is investigating the death and hasn't made a public report yet.

But a friend of Barnette's says he hadn't had the insulin shots he needs for two days before his death. Nancy Clark says was denied the medicine that would have saved his life.
Newton County Sheriff's Captain Mark Thomas says jail staff members aren't authorized to administer medication to inmates.
However, he says insulin is a medical supply that is kept accessible to diabetic inmates. They usually give themselves the shots they need. Thomas would NOT comment on Barnette's illness.
