STATESBORO - Kordel Gibson and Sean Peterson each scored 17 points to lead Georgia Southern to a 70-54 win over College of Charleston Saturday. <br>

The win gave the Eagles their first Southern Conference South Division title in school history. <br>

Georgia Southern (16-11), Charleston (19-8) and Chattanooga (16-13) were tied for first place in the South Division with 9-7 conference records. <br>

But the Eagles won the tiebreaker to get the division's No. 1 seed and a bye in the opening round of the SoCon tournament. <br>

The Eagles went on a 16-1 run with 6:10 left in the first half. The Eagles were up by 17 at halftime. Charleston never got closer than 10 points for the rest of the game. <br>

The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (15-of-30) and outrebounded the Cougars 22-12 in the first half. Charleston shot 38.5 percent from the floor (10-of-26) in the game's first 20 minutes. <br>

Kashien Latham had a game-high 12 rebounds for Georgia Southern. Peterson dished out a game-high seven assists. <br>
<br>
Leighton Bowie scored 15 points to lead Charleston. <br>
<br>
The crowd of more than 3,200 was the largest since a game against Georgia State in February 1992.
