BRUNSWICK - Mary Drury was granted a divorce from her husband, Dr. Carl M. Drury, a former state legislator who is in prison for plotting to murder her.
The divorce was granted Monday in Glynn County Superior Court. The judge cited Carl Drury's imprisonment as legal grounds for the divorce.
Drury, 63, was sentenced to 17 years in prison after a federal jury convicted him in February of trying to hire a hit man to kill his wife.
The judge awarded Mary Drury personal items, title to two family cars and $23,500 for bills.
Carl Drury, who is appealing his conviction, will keep his family's antique china and some personal items.
In the criminal trial, an undercover federal agent testified that the doctor promised him $750 and gave him a handgun to carry out the slaying of Mary Drury.
Carl Drury repeatedly has denied trying to kill his wife and testified the agent tricked him. He said he was only pretending to hire a hit man because he thought it was part of a federal training exercise.
