AOL Time Warner chief says possible CNN/ABC deal is complex

By
NEW YORK - AOL Time Warner Incorporated chief executive Richard Parsons is saying the complexity of merging two news operations has stalled any CNN-ABC deal.

Such a merger would make good business sense because it would allow ABC to benefit from CNN's international reporting expertise, while CNN could expand its audience through ABC's stations and generally broad reach. But Parsons says figuring out the logistics has been challenging and the groups are taking a break.

ABC and CNN have been discussing a possible merger for months. Last week, The Atlanta Journal Constitution quoted CNN Chairman Walter Isaacson as saying he and ABC News President David Westin had already have worked out how to run their operations if they are combined.

AOL Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System Incorporated business owns the major-league baseball, basketball and hockey teams in Atlanta.
