SAVANNAH - A Savannah police officer is hospitalized after being shot several times early Tuesday. <br>

Police say the officer was shot about 3:15 a.m. and was able to call for help. He was taken to Memorial Health University, where he remains. <br>

Investigators have shut off a six- or seven-block where the shooting occurred. <br>
<br>
Police spokesman Bucky Burnsed says it's not immediately clear what the officer was investigating when he was shot. <br>
<br>
Police Chief Dan Flynn plans a 10 a.m. news conference to discuss the shooting. <br>
<br>
Police have not released the wounded officer's name.
