GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA - East Carolina University's police chief is leaving to lead the police force at Georgia Tech. <br>

Teresa Crocker will step down at the end of the year to begin her new job January 6th as police chief at the Georgia Institute of Technology. <br>
<br>
The 44-year-old Crocker has been East Carolina University's public safety department chief for the past nine years. She also was an officer and chief at North Carolina State University for 12 years. <br>
<br>
She says Georgia Tech is ``one of the better schools in the country. It's just a perfect fit.'' <br>
<br>
Georgia Tech hired a national search committee to recruit for the position, which has been vacant since the summer. Crocker replaces Jack Vickery, who retired. <br>
<br>
Crocker will be responsible for protecting nearly 16,000 students and approximately six thousand faculty and staff on a campus of than 350 acres.
