Hospital releases Atlanta officers shot while serving warrant

ATLANTA - Two Atlanta police officers shot while serving a search warrant for drugs have been released from the hospital. <br>

A third officer also was shot Wednesday, but was not taken to the hospital. <br>
<br>
The suspect in the shooting -- 20-year-old Willie Holland -- was wounded in the southeast Atlanta shootout. He's listed in stable condition Thursday at Grady Memorial Hospital. <br>

Police chief Richard Pennington says the wounded officers were among four at the scene. <br>
<br>
Officer G.E. Mercier, protected by a bulletproof vest, suffered a severe bruise from a shot to the chest, but was otherwise unhurt. Officer A.C. Smith was struck in the hand by bullet fragments. Officer J.C. Stephens was grazed on the leg. <br>
<br>
Holland has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault on police. <br>
<br>
All the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with department policy.
