DECATUR - A 51-year-old woman was jailed after a radio station accidentally taped her over the telephone yelling at a child in the background.
Venus Taylor of Stone Mountain was charged with cruelty to children and terroristic threats. She was being held Thursday at the DeKalb County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, police said.
Taylor was arrested Nov. 24, three days after a disc jockey at WALR-FM picked up a station phone line and heard a voice yelling and a child wailing in the background, said Jed Nitzberg, spokesman for the state Division of Family and Children Services.
The station taped the call and turned it over to Atlanta police, who played it for the child welfare agency, Nitzberg said.
``The way it starts, you just hear the yelling,'' Nitzberg said. ``You can't tell whether she thought she'd hung up or thought she was holding or what.''
He said the woman calls the child names and threatens to beat her, says she hates her and tells her she should have been left in a foster home.
The station did not air the call.
