ANDERSON, S.C. - Ed Scott scored 17 points as Clemson shot better than 50 percent in the second half to beat Gardner-Webb 71-61 on Saturday night. <br>

The Tigers (5-0) are off to their best start in six seasons. <br>

The Bulldogs (1-5) led Clemson by two at the break, but the Tigers took the lead 30-29 on Chey Christie's basket and foul shot with 19:23 to go. <br>
<br>
Christie would hit another jumper as the Tigers went on a 15-3 run. By the time Gardner-Webb's Otis Daniels ended the spurt with a bucket with 14:32 to go, Clemson led 42-34. <br>

Daniels led the Bulldogs with 15 points and nine rebounds. Chris Wiggins added nine points, and Josh Chiles had six assists for Gardner-Webb. <br>

Ray Henderson had 14 points and Christie added 13, while Chris Hobbs and Sharrod Ford each pulled down nine rebounds for the Tigers. <br>

After weathering Clemson's first second half run, Gardner-Webb cut the Tiger lead to 53-46 with 9:04 to go. <br>
<br>
But Olu Babalola hit back-to-back baskets and Henderson hit a jumper, tip-in and two free throws to lead Clemson on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes. <br>

Clemson went 17-of-33 (51.5 percent) from the field in the second half, and shot 27-of-64 (42.4 percent) for the game. The Bulldogs shot 22-of-68 (32.4 percent). <br>

The game was played at the Anderson Civic Center. Clemson is currently renovating Littlejohn Coliseum, which is scheduled to reopen next month.
