SNELLVILLE - Students at Brookwood High School in the Atlanta suburb of Snellville are spreading holiday cheer by producing their own Christmas CD and donating the proceeds to needy families.
Students in Ken Simpson's music technology class have released a 19-track Christmas CD called ``Spirit of the Season.'' It features vocals from seniors Becca Seibel and Brady Beard, John Tice on guitar and Daniel Ashworth playing trumpet.

Some of the cuts are original compositions and some are old favorites, but all were entirely student-produced.

This year marks the eighth CD release for Simpson and his students. He said the product keeps getting better each year.

The music technology program itself is unique, says Simpson. He said it gives high school students a chance to record and produce music using computers hooked up to synthesizers and 16-track digital recording studio.

He says many Brookwood graduates go on to study sound engineering in college and eventually get jobs in the music industry.

This year's CD is available for 13 dollars. People also can buy a greatest hits disc featuring Brookwood music from CDs of Christmas past for $25.
After the costs of producing the CD are paid, students will donate the rest of the proceeds to Helping Hands and Hearts, a local project that helps families in need through the holiday season.
