NEW YORK - Welterweight champion Vernon Forrest's two wins over Shane Mosley has earned the Augusta native a nomination for fighter of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
Also nominated Thursday were Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar De La Hoya and Lennox Lewis, who all had big wins in 2002. In an unusual joint nomination, Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward were picked for their two non-title slugfests.
The awards, voted on by members of the organization, will be presented at the 78th annual BWAA dinner on April 25 in New York City.
