COLUMBUS - Police seized dozens of small dogs from a Columbus kennel this week and have charged the owner with 101 counts of animal neglect for allegedly packing the pups into pens littered with dog waste.
Estelle Ledford, 69, owned the kennel and was housing nearly a hundred small dogs such as Chihuahuas, poodles and yorkies. Investigators found the dogs crammed together and left in the cold. Their water had turned to ice.
Animal Control says two dogs were so sick they had to be euthanized, but the rest did not appear to be in bad health.
Police say the story has a happy ending, though. Nearly all the dogs have been adopted after a Columbus radio station aired the story earlier this week.
And two of the dogs gave birth to healthy puppies on Christmas Day in the city dog pound.
