ATLANTA - Morehouse School of Medicine on Friday opened the National Center for Primary Care, which university officials said is the only center in the country dedicated to closing the health gap.
The 105,000-square foot center was funded by a $15 million federal grant from the U.S. Public Health Service's Office of Minority Health.
Federal officials announced Friday that the medical school will receive $15 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services toward research programs and training at the school. Some of that funding will help the new center, school officials said.
The new center, with the help of another five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health, will examine health disparities in order to find ways to eliminate them. School officials said they hope the center will become a national resource for education, research and policy.
