Company bringing jobs to Griffis has troubled history

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK - The Georgia-based company that promises to bring more than 500 jobs to a former air base in central New York has a troubled history. <br> <br> But state and federal officials say they aren&#39;t concerned over the past track record of Orasee. <br> <br> Orasee is creating a new company to commercially market its tamperproof anti-counterfeiting optical-imaging software for product identity and currency protection. <br> <br> The company is moving into a vacant building at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. The building is being paid for by the state, and the company stands to gain up to ten million dollars in tax breaks if it creates the 500 jobs it promises. <br> <br> Last week, Governor George Pataki and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton were on hand to announce the deal. <br> <br> But Monday&#39;s Syracuse Post-Standard reports that Orasee is considered a ``high-risk investment&#39;&#39; and that its chairman has run into legal and financial troubles in New York, Georgia and Bermuda, including lawsuits and bankruptcy.
