ATLANTA - Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt has a team loaded with talented, young players, with the emphasis on young.

That was apparent during a recent scrimmage, when little-used walk-on David Nelson ran a squad that beat one led by freshman point guard Jarrett Jack by 16 points. It didn't matter that Nelson took only one shot.

Don't look for Nelson to contribute much more than he did last season, when he played a total of seven minutes. Hewitt already has decided Jack will replace four-year starter Tony Akins at point guard.

Last season, the Yellow Jackets rebounded from losing their first seven Atlantic Coast Conference games to win seven of the last eight. Akins was the only senior who played significant minutes.

This year's team is even younger, with juniors Marvin Lewis and Robert Brooks expected to join nine freshmen and sophomores in the rotation.

Others likely to play considerably are B.J. Elder and Isma'il Muhammad. Although Muhammad might not start, he figures to get significant minutes backing up Lewis and Elder.

The biggest battle up front with three players vying for two starting inside positions.

Ed Nelson, a 6-foot-8 forward, who was conference rookie of the year a year ago, 7-foot-1 Luke Schenscher and 6-foot-9 freshman Chris Bosh.

Theodis Tarver, another freshman, joins Brooks to provide depth on the front line.
All should get their chances, since the Yellow Jackets plan to keep up the full-court pressure they've used in Hewitt's first two seasons.
