STATESBORO - The Statesboro Herald announced Monday that it has named James D. Healy as its executive editor. <br>

Healy, 43, has been the metro editor of The Times in Gainesville since 1999. <br>
<br>
He graduated from Clemson University in 1981 and started his journalism career at the weekly Clemson Messenger. <br>
<br>
In 1987, Healy joined the Homestead (Fla.) South Dade News Leader as associated editor. He was later named editor and held that post until 1991. <br>
<br>
After leaving the News Leader, he served as project coordinator for the state of Florida to administer a grant that helped victims of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. <br>
<br>
From 1994 to 1998, Healy was owner-publisher of AnnJim Publishing in Cutler Ridge, Fla. He and his wife Ann founded the Cutler Courier and the Pinecrest Courier, both weekly tabloids. <br>
<br>
Randy Morton, publisher of the Statesboro Herald, announced the appointment, effective immediately.
