ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves named Ralph ``Rocket'' Wheeler on Friday to manage the Class A Rome Braves in their inaugural year.
The 47-year-old Wheeler was the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays' Class AA affiliate in the Southern League for the past three seasons.
Wheeler was drafted by the Blue Jays in 1977 and played six years in their minor league farm system as a utility man.
He replaces Lynn Jones, who managed the Macon Braves before they announced the move to Rome. Jones has taken a job as a roving minor league instructor for the Boston Red Sox.
Dayton Moore, director of player personnel says Wheeler's energy and teaching ability make him ``a great addition to this organization.''
