LAFAYETTE - State Rep. Mike Snow, a Democrat from Chickamauga who has served 17 years in the House, has filed suit contesting his November 5 election loss to Republican Jay Neal.
Neal, a LaFayette minister, defeated Snow by fewer than 200 votes in the district that includes most of Walker County. Snow's lawsuit claims there were ``irregularities by election officials.''
Snow says he had to file a lawsuit to make sure the votes were cast and counted properly.
The lawsuit says about 2,900 voters were put in the wrong district and voted illegally.
Snow is asking the Superior Court to invalidate the results of the election and order a new election. The suit claims irregularities were sufficient to change or place in doubt the election's results.
Neal called the suit ``a desperate attempt by former Representative Snow to hold on to power when the people have clearly said it is time to go.''
