ATLANTA - A man already serving life in prison for a string of robberies has been given another life sentence in the murder of an Atlanta prostitute.
A Superior Court jury that convicted Jeffery Ray Sharp of raping and beating the 19-year-old woman to death in a cemetery five years ago spared him from the death penalty Thursday.
``It was a horrific crime,'' District Attorney Paul Howard said. ``I guess they decided to give him a break.''
The jury deliberated about an hour before announcing Sharp, now 37, should be imprisoned without parole for the murder of Jessica Marie Shultz.
