ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer shot and killed a man Saturday who was slashing another officer with a knife.
Atlanta police said Sgt. R.L. Holder and Officer B.R. Cartwright were responding to a call that a man had cut his mother with a knife.

The mother allowed the officers inside the house and they tried to talk with the suspect, Leotis Reese Jr., 48.

Reese refused to comply with the officers' commands and got into a physical struggle with the police, they said.

Reese slashed Cartwright across the face, police said.
When Reese moved to attack Cartwright again, Holder shot him.
Holder, a 20-year veteran on the Atlanta police force, was placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
