ALBANY - A popular high school math teacher in Albany has been arrested on accusations that he beat his wealthy inventor father to death with a golf club.
William T. ``Bill'' Scheer was arrested yesterday after a grand jury indicted him in the death of 83-year-old William Henry Scheer 12 years ago.
The father was a retired Bell Telephone Laboratories inventor.
News reports at the time said the father's body was found in a bedroom chair by two maids. He suffered an apparent blow to the head from a golf club.
District Attorney Ken Hodges says follow-up interviews with witnesses led to new evidence against Scheer.
He could not discuss specifics of the evidence that led to Scheer's indictment and arrest.
Scheer's attorney, Pete Donaldson, says the teacher was at school that morning and could not have committed the crime.
