ROCK HILL, S.C. - A man wanted by federal authorities on a counterfeiting charge fatally shot himself as police officers tried to arrest him at his mother's home, authorities said.
Clinton Dean Malcolm, 40, was found Friday and it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, York County Coroner Doug McKown said.
Malcolm was wanted by the Secret Service on a counterfeiting charge and in Georgia on a contempt charge.
He was living with his mother, Rock Hill Police Detective Steve Thompson said. Malcolm had bi-polar disorder and was not taking his medications, his mother told police.
Investigators entered the home and told the mother they had a warrant. Malcolm was in an upstairs bedroom and about five minutes later he shot himself in the head with a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, police said.
Police don't know why he killed himself.
