NEW YORK - The head of the Walt Disney Company says reports of a news-media merger involving his company are ``very premature.''
Disney chairman and CEO Michael Eisner says Disney's ABC News Division and AOL Time Warner Incorporated's CNN News division have had talks about ``more efficient ways to deliver the news.''

He says he wouldn't give the chance of a merger more than 50-50 odds.

But Eisner says that putting together the broadcast and cable news operations would fit in with Disney's way of running its daytime programming.
Eisner also says the company would also consider a sale of its Anaheim Angels baseball team and Mighty Ducks hockey team.

Disney has been hurt this year by a weak economy, weak ratings at ABC, and a drop in visitors at Disneyland and Disney World after last year's terrorist attacks.
But, Eisner notes, the company has reduced its overhead and improved its profit margins.
